The World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest is only the largest event put on for duck callers every year. Stuttgart Arkansas is home to the contest and has been hosting since 1936. Every year around Thanksgiving hundreds gather to witness the weekend-long duck calling contest to see who will be called the World Champion. It’s one of the most coveted titles to hold as a duck call competitor, however, many try and few succeed to claim it. The competition has evolved into a full-on qualification only entrance. It used to be such an unknown competition that anyone could test their skills. However, it’s evolved into requiring competitors to qualify through preliminary sanctioned calling contests to be granted the opportunity to compete in the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest. Over the years the competition has grown and the publicity has expanded. Making this competition extremely hard to conquer and win. John Stephens & RNT Calls
John Stephens is a native of Stuttgart, Arkansas and his face can be seen in multiple hunting videos, clothing brands, and of course his coveted duck calls. Stephens is a renowned duck call collector and custom duck call maker. John had the honor of working closely with Butch Richenback from RNT calls. RNT or Rich-N-Tone calls was created over 35 years ago by Butch, he made simple and dependable duck calls for waterfowl hunters. In the 1970’s Butch, himself won the World Champion and Champion of Champions title. Since then RNT has been on the map at the World Championship contest every year.
However, it wasn’t until a little while ago that the late Butch approached John Stephens to take over the RNT name and company. At first, John was a bit skeptical about trying to carry on the legacy and name that Butch had created. Wings Over The Prairie Festival –
The Wings Over The Prairie Festival takes place right in Stuttgart during the same time as the Worlds Championship Duck Calling Contest. This is an event like no other, think of a festival that’s focused around duck hunting, duck calling, and then amplify that by 100 and you get this great festival. The event kicks off on Saturday before Thanksgiving with a Queen and Junior Queen Mallard pageant at the Community College. On Sunday afternoon the festival has an open house for novelty shops in the downtown shopping district. The next event to partake at the festival is a youth duck calling contest, that usually occurs on Tuesday. The next couple days there is a carnival and midway that is open.
Friday kicks off with a trap shooting competition that takes place at Mack’s Prairie Wings. Children duck calling classes are also held on Friday along with art and craft fairs, commercial exhibits, and collectible shows. Friday is also the day that kicks of the Intermediate World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest, and last chance duck calling contest. Then Saturday starts off with a 5K/10K race and the World’s contest with the commercial exhibits open all day. Finally, the Main Stage will host the WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP DUCK CALLING CONTEST what so many people come to watch and hear.
